Ara l-kliem bil-Malti Malti

The euro – good for us all!

The euro is also called the ‘single currency’ of the European Union. This is because all the countries that use it all have the same money. It is very useful and helpful for these countries to use the same money and this is why Malta has adopted the euro instead of the Maltese lira on 1st January 2008.

But what exactly are the good things about using the euro? Well, first of all it will be much easier for Maltese people to travel and visit other countries. You will no longer have to change your Maltese money at the bank if you travel to any of the ‘euro zone’ countries like so many Maltese people like to do! Won’t it be great not to have to wait in long queues at the bank before you go on holiday?

Another good thing about the euro is that it will be easier for Maltese businesses to buy and sell their products outside of Malta. The euro will also make it easier for Maltese shop keepers to buy things from the euro zone countries – they won’t have to change money when they want to pay for their goods!

The euro is also the second strongest currency in the whole world! Only the American dollar ($) is stronger and more popular than the euro. The euro is used in more than one third (1/3) of all buying and selling that is done throughout the world – this is a lot when you think about how many different currencies there are in the world today!

One good thing about using a strong currency like the euro is that it helps Malta’s economy grow stronger and makes it easier for foreign businesses to work with us. This will help create a healthy Maltese economy.
